Toesday

Aren't my clawrs fierce?? See how I terrify Latte with them? They've been clipped and I was actually a good girl for once. I purred the whole time and let the LL clip them alone. Usually its a group effort by whatever guest is in the house. The TM isn't too good at holding for clippy clawrs (he holds extra tight) so its generally when Gamma is around.

I've been a badbadbad girl and while I used to have perfect scratching tendencies I've started using the stairs. I need help with this compulsion as I can't stop on my own. Any ideas for how to make me stop before the Tall Man has a full blown freak-out on the situation?

***Thanks for all of the suggestions so far. I guess I should add that the humans very very rarely actually catch me doing it and if they do I take off right away because I know it is something I'm not supposed to do.***

Oah Wowww....you have very very fierce claws... I usually don't have it.
Because Michico cut our claws while she sees it gets sharper... And we both let her doing it without fight, because I think I could sharp it again anyway.
Bless your tall man....and your stairs....

Those are awesome toes'n'claws, Kaze! We don't know what to suggest to make you stop scratching in all the wrong places, other than providing you with lots of yummy alternatives!

Excuse me while I go scratch the divine post on my new tree...

::Whispers:: Squirt bottle when you do it on the stairs.
I'm sorry I said that, but it might work.

Our Mom put a scratching post at the bottom of the stairs and Jake stopped his occasional bad habit. The post is a bit of a hazard to humans in this location though.

Those are nice big furroshus clawsies. We don't get ours clipped cuz we keep them short (but sharp) outdoors.
Sometimes, well most times, I, Flynn, sharpen my clawsies on the carpet right next to the scratching post. Mum tells me off, but I still do it because I want to.

How many scratching posts do you have? You probably need one near the stairs, or at least one that is LIKE the stairs, maybe have them make you a wedge-shaped post or something. Have them carry you to a post calmly every time you scratch. Although the beans squirt us for some things, they don't squirt for scratching because we need to scratch, just not in certain places. Putting twine on a post makes a good home made scratching post. Putting nip and some of our fur near desired posts also helps us use the correct spots.

Very impressive toesies and clawrs, Kaze.

We think having a scratching post nearby may help as an alternative choice, trimming them before they get long, and dare we say it? Yes, the dreaded spray bottle. That worked on us when Mom first got adopted us. After a while, it didn't even need water in it to make us stop.

Oh look - Our Word verification is "cheap"! hahaha!

Those are the most impressive claws I've ever seen! We had a group pedicure this week and I was by far the least cooperative (hey I worked hard for them).

purrs- Cory

I think a squirt bottle may help with your compulsion, but some kitties like the water!

Great claw shot! We have the same issue with the very top step. Mom and Dad have a flat scratching pad that they have placed near the spot so we will scratch that instead of the step. They also have a water spray bottle that they would squirt at us when we get the step, and now the bottle sits right by the step as a reminder that it might get us if we get the step. Don't know if the psychology really works or not, but Mom and Dad like to think it does.

Those are fierce clawrs, Kaze! I can tell that Latte is very askeered. We are no help on the scratching problem - but, then again, we don't really think it's a problem. You should see our couch! hee hee

Oh no you've just reminded me that I too need a pawdicure... As for stair scratching and the like, Mummy always sprays stuff she doesn't want us to try and disembowel with Feliway. Though I'm currently making bestest friends my new cushion cover without any assistance! ;)

The are amazing claws!!!!!!

We wish we had answers for scratching stairs....our friend Nikodemus does it too and he has been relegated to spending more time outdoors because he won't stop. And I tend to scratch the bejeezus out of the carpet, and the our wonderful tree.

Junior

my word verification is "cometake"...tahnks, I think I will. ;)

Oh, Kaze, how fierce you are for sure!!!

Now, to the beans ... about the stairs. Hmmmm.... maybe they could mount a scratcher on the wall near the place on the stairs that you find so irresistable? It could also be coated with a cat-nip spray.

We have double sided tape in the areas the cats go after.

We love your claws Kaze!

There's something wrong with scratching the stairs??

For your LL, maybe it's due to the texture or hardness of what Kaze is scratching? I don't know if your stairs are carpeted or hard wood. Ollie is our problem scratcher. When we had our old furniture, the frames were solid wood with cushions on top. She loved nothing more than to dig in and put her butt up in the air. We didn't care because the furniture was so old and beat. She also did and still does this on hard tires that are on a wagon. When we replaced our furniture with fabric covered furniture/frames she never once scratched on it. She seems like to harder things to scratch on. She rarely scratches on the cat condo that is covered in carpet.
